Golfer Denholm keeps up the good work

WISHAW Golf Club’s June monthly medal and club championship qualifier on Saturday brought out a large turn-out, resulting in a strong competition in all classes.

Billy Denholm won the first class, continuing his good form from last week, and also secured the best scratch score of the day with his fine 67.

It means he now leads going into the next two rounds of the club championship this weekend. sOf the 66 players to qualify for the club championship, 40 do so with their scratch scores and 26 via their net handicap scores.

Davie Connacher, Martin Dundas and Stuart Schoneville followed closely behind Denholm in the first class section.

Robin Lindsay pipped Gerry McLelland (junior) in the second class by one shot, veteran Andy Dundas won the third class.

Third class, 1, Andy Dundas, 88-2-66; 2, John Pentland, 84-16-68 (bih); 3, Joe Campbell, 85-17-68 (bih); 4, Michael Fisher, 94-26-68.

Meanwhile, Wishaw’s gents team enjoyed a resounding 9-1 victory at home to Carnweath.

However, the senior team lost 4-1 at home to Easter Moffat.

This week’s competition is the club championship for the Belhaven Trophy and the Alistair Moodie Trophy.
