Gaffney wins Rosebowl

THE Colin Baird Rosebowl finally took place at Wishaw Golf Club at the weekend along with the monthly medal finals.

Following a period of poor weather conditions over the past few weeks, the weather finally relented, allowing the players to get back on the course.

Despite playing long the scoring was good.

The first class was won by Lamont Kennedy who was winner by two shots from Tom Ballantyne.

The second class went to Paul Hepburn by a single shot from George Campbell.

In the third class Brian Gaffney won a tight contest on the B.I.H rule from Tony Bradley and Brian O’Neill which secured him the Colin Baird Rosebowl.

Result first class: 1, Lamont Kennedy, 71-6-65; 2, Tom Ballantyne, 76-9-65; 3, Alan Armit, 70-2-68 (B.I.H); 4, Graham Irvine, 76-8-68 (B.I.H).

Second class, 1, Paul Hepburn, 79-12-67; 2, George Campbell, 79-11-68; 3, Jack McMaster, 82-13-69 (B.I.H); 4, Mick McKeever, 81-12-69 (B.I.H).

Third class: 1, Brian Gaffney, 91-26-65 (B.I.H); 2, Tony Bradley, 85-20-65 (B.I.H); 3, Brian O’Neill, 86-21-65; 4, Paul Dorman , 87-18-69.

This week’s competition is the Joe Wark Four-ball best ball for the gents.

The gents and juveniles event will be played on Sunday (October 2), gent players still required.
