Knock-out season for Cleland boxers

IT has been another successful season at Cleland ABC, with a number of top-class performances from the young boxers.

Danny Cooper secured two gold medals this season at the Western District and Scottish Schoolboy tournaments.

Last month he also defeated Mancunian J Farricher in their three-round bout at the grassroots club show at the Pivot Centre, Moddiesburn.

On the same card, Stephen Jordan lost his debut fight but put in a very assured performance.

At a recent club show in Bellahouston, light-welterweight Chris Steel showed his great potential despite losing to the Western District champion.

There was success for Darren McGinn at the same event as he won his fight convincingly at 66kg – his best career performance to date.

Kerr Patterson also did well in his first exhibition bout.

Youngster Hayden Slaven was unlucky in defeat when he made his debut at a club show in Giffnock.

And Gareth Ford has recorded impressive victories in his last two fights, as has 16-year-old Jamie McLuskey. Alan Wilson has also been in action this season.

The Cleland Boxing club committee would like to thank all the coaches and boxers for their commitment and loyalty to the club.

Equally the boxers and coaches would like to thank the committee for their efforts throughout the season.
