Boxer wins British title

TEENAGE boxer Keiran Smith has become a British Champion after victory at the recent Four Nations Tournament in Portobello.

The 16-year-old boxer who fights out of the Springhill Amateur Boxing Club, Shotts, put in a fantastic performance to clinch gold, seeing off Scottish and Welsh opposition on his way to the title.

Coach Frank Delaney said: “He has come on very well.

“When we were down at the Phoenix Gym in Glasgow training for the event, he sparred against fighters of different weights but they could not touch them. He was outstanding.”

He added: “We will probably now look to get him some experience in a multi-nations tournament abroad.”

At the same event, Springhill’s Ross McLaren (15) put in a good performance against Luke Saunders from West Ham, London, and secured a silver medal.
