DALZIEL S1 rugby squad have had a very successful season, culminating in their participation in two prestigious festivals of youth rugby.
At the recent Dalziel and Hamilton festivals, the youngsters took on Glasgow giants GHA and Cartha, top Edinburgh side Currie and Lanarkshire rivals Biggar and Hamilton (twice).
The Motherwell side played some fantastic, expansive rugby and were unbeaten in both competitions, winning five games and drawing against Biggar who scored with the last move of the game.
The boys scored 18 tries and conceded only four – finishing second at Dalziel on points difference and first at Hamilton.
Results: Dalziel Festival of Youth Rugby - Dalziel 3 Biggar 3, Dalziel 4 GHA 0, Dalziel 20 Hamilton 0. Hamilton Festival of Youth Rugby - Dalziel 8 Cartha 4, Dalziel 17 Currie 3, Dalziel 14 Hamilton 3.
Dalziel’s primary school teams were also in action at the Hamilton Festival.
The Dalziel P6 squad fielded two teams, who both made it all the way to the final.
Dalziel and the Dalziel Barbarians sides never lost a game on their way to the final although Dalziel did draw with Hamilton Presidents. It was the Barbarians who secured victory, winning the final 3-2.
The P4 side lost their first two games, against Allen Glens and Hamilton Bulls.
It was third time lucky against Hamilton Presidents before Dalziel caused an upset defeating Hamilton in their ‘test match.’
