Local rugby club teams up with Motherwell College

Motherwell College

DALZIEL Rugby Club and Motherwell College have strengthened their existing partnership in a deal which will allow the club to use the college’s brand new gym facilities this season.

Club president Khalid Faqir said: “This is an excellent opportunity for club members to improve their strength and fitness levels, which are needed since gaining promotion to Premier League Three.

“The benefit for the youth section is that they will enhance their physical development and learn how to maintain a healthier lifestyle that will stand them in good stead in the future.

“It will also provide an opportunity for players to become familiar with Motherwell College and all it has to offer them.”

In return for access to the gym, the Motherwell College logo will be placed prominently on the right sleeve of every Dalziel strip.

The college have supported Dalziel’s annual youth rugby festival for a number of years.

Next year’s festival will be held on April 30.

Rod Harris, a lecturer at Motherwell College and vice-president of Dalziel RFC said: “There is already good link and working relationship between the college and rugby club which we are keen to foster further.”

Meanwhile Dalziel, in conjunction with the SRU, have arranged for 12 individuals - players and coaches from both senior and midi/youth sections - to obtain their level one strength and conditioning qualifications.

Individual conditioning programmes will be led by these new instructors.

Faqir added: “This is a great opportunity for the players and coaches which the club has been able to provide after obtaining sponsorship from Tulloch Recruitment Ltd.”
