DALZIEL club captain Graham Calder was relieved to see his team-mates end a run of four games without a win on Saturday.
Dalziel held on to claim a narrow 20-19 victory at Neilson Park in the Premier Three clash.
Calder, who is currently sidelined with an achilles injury, said: “Saturday was a great win. Haddington is a tough place to go and win.
“The boys were outstanding, especially in the second half when they were under the cosh.
“We had a poor run around about now last season which we tried not to talk about so it was good to get this win.
“The boys were slightly nervous but held on for victory.”
With no promotion or relegation out of Premier Three due to league reconstruction, Dalziel have been able to blood some youngsters into the first team this season.
Calder added: “Young backs Scott Johnstone and Ross Westwood have both performed well in the last two weeks which is really pleasing moving forward.
“They should be involved against Cartha this weekend.
“We won a close game earlier this season against them and I would expect it to be a similar game again.”
Calder is currently suffering from tendonitis in his achilles but the scrum half is hoping to be back playing in the new year.
Saturday’s match report is on page 91.
