DALZIEL RFC suffered a 18-7 defeat at Morgan Academy on Saturday in what was just their second match since the end of November.
In muddy underfoot conditions it proved difficult to play expansive rugby at Forfar Road although the hosts did manage to exploit a few overlaps early on, taking advantage of numerous gaping holes in the Dalziel defence.
Only some scrambled defence allowed the Motherwell men to keep them at bay.
Just before the break the visiting pack managed to push over the line from a five metre scrum, allowing number eight Crawford
Reid to dot down for a try. Robert Simpson kicked the extras.
The Taysiders did managed to slot over a first half penalty to turn round 7-3 down in the Premier Three clash.
In the second half Morgan made their dominance count scoring two tries as they eventually secured an 18-7 win.
The result leaves Dalziel in mid-table.
The 2nd XV had no game and the 3rds home match against GHA Gazelles was called off.
However a last minute run-out against GHAs Second XV was organised to enable players some game time for the season run-in.
A scratch side made the short journey to Braidholm to play a well-drilled home team.
A lapse in concentration from the kick-off allowed GHA to secure an early score but Dalziel replied almost immediately when Fraser McKenzie, playing out of position at inside-centre, sneaked over from close range.
Fraser McGlashan added the extras to give them a short-lived 7-5 lead before GHA ran in a further three tries in the first half.
They continued to dominate after the break scoring more tries although Dalziel's Niall McKenzie picked up from the base of a scrum and
crashed over for a consolation.
On Sunday, the under-16s hosted Cambuslang in the Glasgow Cup, running out 20-17 victors in a tight affair.
Next weekend, the 1st and 3rd XVs host GHA and Cumbernauld 2nd XV at Dalziel Park while the 2nd and 4th XVs travel south to play Selkirk and Stewartry respectively.
This Saturday night the Mini Section are hosting a Burns Supper in the clubhouse in aid of the Primary Seven tour (sponsored by Turnkey Business Software) to the Kirkby Lonsdale International Rugby Festival.
